For over 50 years, Aston Martin has been churning out beautifully-crafted convertibles bearing the Volante moniker. This dates back to the Short Chassis Volante of the 1960s and goes all the way to the DBS Volante that debuted a little over a decade ago. The British luxury GT maker continues this tradition as it unveils its latest open top GT: the Aston Martin DB11 Volante.

As the name suggests, this number gives DB11 buyers the option to enjoy open-top motoring at its finest. Taking its cue from the latest Aston Martin that was launched last year, the DB11 Volante gives owners a fine mix of refinement and sporty driving in one breathtaking package.

The Aston Martin DB11 Volante packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 motor that puts ut 510hp, mated to an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. This engine and transmission combo, along with electric power steering and limited slip differential with dynamic torque vectoring allow the driver to take the Aston to the limits of handling adhesion or drive it at a leisurely pace.

And this, Aston Martin says, is the beauty of their new offering. Drivers can select from a slew of drive modes to suit their style and mood. It can be a comfortable cruiser at one point and a canyon carver the next.

What really makes this new Aston Martin special is the convertible roof. While it may still be a fabric top, engineers put in eight layers of weather and noise insulation material to ensure that occupants are protected when the roof is closed. It takes just 14 seconds to open and another 16 ticks to close and turn into an all-weather coupe. Plus, these functions can be done either at speeds of up to 51kph or via the remote key fob.

The fabric top, which is available in either Bordeaux Red, Grey Silver, or Black Silver, is complemented by exterior details such as the one-piece aluminum hood and cool Curlicue aerodynamic feature from the DB11 Coupe. The cabin also gets exquisite bits like wood or carbon fiber seatback panels, a heated steering wheel, and for the first time in an Aston, ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Deliveries of the Aston Martin DB11 Volante will begin in the first quarter of 2018.
