It was only in August of this year when we reported that the fifth-generation Honda CR-V received a five-star rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN) NCAP) for excellence in crash safety and occupant protection. Those who think this is just a one-off award will be pleasantly surprised to learn that the vehicle has likewise garnered the same rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
ANCAP recognized Honda’s efforts in putting cutting-edge safety and technology into the latest iteration of its best-selling crossover. These include crash-stroke front frame rails tht dispense energy, hot-stamped ultra high-strength steel door rings and sills, and tailor-tempered B-pillars and rear frame.
Apart from these, the structure uses the engine compartment to absorb impact energy during those fatal head-on collisions. In puts various buffer points to absorb both upper and lower impacts, as well as prevent misalignment between vehicles.
In plain English, the new CR-V’s ACE body structure keeps occupants safe and out of harm’s way. It does its best to minimize any damage to passengers. Besides this, the suite of passive and active safety features also do their best to ensure occupant protection even in the most severe crashes.
ANCAP is Australia’s leading independent vehicle safety organization.
