It’s no secret that Volvo Cars is a staunch advocate of ocean conservation efforts. In fact, the Swedish carmaker even holds a Volvo Ocean Race that tries to raise awareness about the state of our oceans and how we can care for these large bodies of water. To celebrate the 2018 season, it now reveals a special V90 Cross Country Volvo Ocean Race edition.

The specially-designed limited edition model boasts of a few exterior and interior features that not only give it style but likewise keep it in tune with the ocean conservation theme. The Crystal White exterior finish is enhanced by matte grey and orange accents taken straight from the Volvo XC Coupe Concept of 2014.

The interior also gets touches like floor carpet inlays that are made from 100% recycled material from abandoned fishing nets. Rather than letting these nets go to waste and choke our ocean floors, Volvo deemed it wise to put them to good use.

Volvo says that it will donate Euro 100 for each of the 3,000 units it plans to sell. The said amount will be used to fund the Volvo Ocean Race Science Program, a project that will equip of Volvo Ocean Race boats with sensors to measure different parameters to check the current state of our oceans. Things like temperature, barometric pressure, wind speed, salinity, and other data will be taken and studied. These, in turn, can help better scientists and weather experts understand the weather and climate behavior.

The Volvo V90 Cross Country Volvo Ocean Race was developed by Volvo Special Vehicle department. As mentioned above, only 3,000 copies will be offered.
