First unveiled in 2014, the BMW X4 brings a smaller, more manageable take on the crossover coupe segment to the luxury car market. Believe it or not, the model is four years old and BMW thinks it’s time for a refresh.

As with most touch-up jobs, the 2019 BMW inherits most of the styling cues of its predecessor. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. That is until you see the larger kidney grille up front, and the specs sheet that reveals a longer, wider X4 with a lengthier wheelbase.

These extra millimeters translate to added room for occupants inside the luxurious cabin. BMW has thrown in a new 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen atop the center stack. It features navigation and mobile device integration, apart from telling various vehicle functions and entertainment media options.

This being a BMW, luxury and tech touches are aplenty. These include LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, tri-zone climate control, and various driver aids like front collision warning, city collision mitigation and braking, and pedestrian detection, among others. Buyers can even add goodies like adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, Lane Departure Warning, and the like.

Speaking of options, a couple of cool pieces of kit are Traffic Jam Assist that is useful in urban gridlock, and a 360-degree camera that different views like Panoramic, Top, and even 3D. This one is truly helpful in those tight parking spots.

The 2019 BMW X4 will be available with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo motor for the xDrive30i. This lump puts out 248hp and 350Nm, coursed to all four wheels via 8-speed automatic. It allows the X4 to blast from rest to 100kph in 6 seconds. Then there is the M40i with its 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo mill. This powerplant produces 355hp and 495Nm of torque, also sent to all four corners through an 8-speed gearbox. It powers the crossover to the century mark from rest in just 4.6 ticks.

You can tell that you’re looking at the 2019 X4 because you’ll notice stuff like Glacier Silver Metallic-coated front and rear underbody guards, as well as Satin Aluminum window sills. The M Performance model trades in those silver accents for high gloss black, along with Sport seats in the cabin. It likewise gets uprated brakes and suspension with adaptive dampers.

The 2019 BMW X4 will hit dealerships by July of this year.
