It’s no secret that many trucks and public utility jeepneys use refurbished Isuzu engines. The Japanese brand’s diesel mills have somehow become the standard, thanks to its reliability and ease of maintenace. So it’s not surprising that it is a staunch player in the Department of Transportation’s PUV Modernization Program.
With the program in full swing, the agency has begun clapiming down on old, non-roadworthy PUVs that are 15 years or older through the Tanggal Bulok, Tanggal Usok program. It aims to phase in new, Euro-4 complaint jeepneys within the next six years.
In line with this, companies like Isuzu Philippines Corporation have been putting forth its jeepney prototypes that meet international, modern public transport standards. It has done so with the help of leading truck body builder Centro Manufacturing Corporation.
The truck body builder has made sure that the jeepney prototypes come with doors that are PWD friendly and are proportionate with the corresponding length, width, and height. The seats, meanwhile, comply with international standards, while there are provisions for standing passenger when called for.
Moreover, the engines are Euro-4 compliant, making sure that they are smoke and pollution free. Isuzu and Centro will also ensure that maintenance costs are kept to a minimum, not draining the pockets of owners and operators.
With all these, it looks like Isuzu and Centro are on their way towards providing a truly modern PUV for the comfort and safety of the riding public.
