Around 34 people are killed due to road mishaps every day, says the Philippine Statistics Office. As if this figure isn’t alarming enough, the main cause of death for teens aged 15 to 19 are road-related accidents. And the number of victims rose from 15,572 in 2014 to 24,565 in 2016.
Yet all is not lost, thinks Volkswagen Philippines. In fact, it continues to push for road safety by undertaking campaigns that aim to educate motorists and pedestrians alike. And it is starting at a very young age—as young as 4 years old.
Thanks to the Child Safety Initiative that was launched in April of 2015 at the Manila International Auto Show, some 10,000 kids and 7,000-plus parents have been learning about the importance of road safety. Now, the CSI campaign heads over to Cebu once more for the second activation.
To be held at The Gallery, Ayala Center in Cebu on March 9-11, the three-day event will once again allow kids aged 4-8 years old to learn about proper road safety using a miniature simulated road network. The simulation contains mini cars, as well as road signs and stoplights. Kids will also get to learn about the various passive safety systems that are found in today’s modern vehicles. And they will get their Volkswagen Junior Driver’s License upon completing the course.
While the children are busy having fun learning about road safety, their parents can check out the latest VW offering, the Volkswagen Jetta, which will be available for viewing and test drive.
