Italian supercar maker Ferrari couldn’t wait any longer for the 2018 Geneva Motor Show scheduled next month. Case in point, it recently uploaded some images of its centrepiece for the upcoming motoring event in Switzerland – the sleek-looking Ferrari 488 Pista.

The 488 Pista slots ahead as the successor to the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, and 458 Speciale, 3 of the brand’s highly-acclaimed V8-engine special series. It also serves as an evolution of the 488 GTB.

And like the aforementioned predecessors, the 488 Pista is also developed and honed on the track. This is made possible thanks largely to the brand’s involvement in Formula One, the FIA World Endurance Championship, and its own one-make racing series called Ferrari Challenge.

The exterior design unmistakably evokes an aggressive feel. The sharply-chiselled front end cuts through oncoming air with its aerodynamic shape. This is aided by a blacked out diffuser located on the lower bumper. The attachment, along with the Formula-One-inspired S Duct, generates more down force up front which helps keep the car planted on the road at high speeds.

Off to the side, the silhouette not only grabs attention, but also aids in smoothing out air flow leading to the rear end. Finally, the rear portion is highlighted by a stylish bumper which features a blacked-out diffuser below it. The diffuser helps generate additional down force by sorting out air flow coming from under the car. On top of the bumper resides an improved “dolphin tail” spoiler.

To compare, all these aggressive aerodynamic-focused styling help the 488 Pista attain 20% more down force than the 488 GTB. It even weighs 90 kg less than the GTB, which means that the driver will enjoy a more nimble and lightweight track weapon.

However, Ferrari didn’t just throw in tangible aerodynamic components to level up the 488 Pista’s driving dynamics. It also hooked up the car with its high-tech party trick called Side-Slip Angle Control system 6.0 (SSC 6.0).

Without getting too technical, the SSC 6.0 is an electronic gizmo that optimizes the car’s behavior at speed. It comes with an assortment of software such as E-Diff 3, F1-Trac, and the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer. The latter automatically adjusts the brake pressure from the calipers, thus improving the car’s stopping power.

But the best part of the 488 Pista is under the engine cover. That’s because the 488 Pista runs wth a 710 hp V8 mill that delivers a pulling power of 770 Nm. According to Ferrari, the said performance output serves as a new benchmark for its V8-engined line up. This means that the 488 Pista is the most powerful V8 Ferrari to date.
