United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), the exclusive distributor of FOTON passenger and commercial vehicles in the Philippines, has launched its Blue Energy technology. It’s the Chinese brand’s take on improving its model lineup with Euro 4 compliant turbodiesel engines.

With the help of its long-time engine building partner Cummins, FOTON claims that its Blue Energy diesel engine delivers better power and torque output across the rpm range, while burning fuel more thoroughly. In addition, it also operates more quietly than conventional diesel engines.

The secret of the FOTON Blue Energy engine lies in its internal components. For starters, it has an improve turbocharger with intercooler and exhaust gas recirculating system. This helps bring in more power due to cleaner fuel burning while reducing harmful emissions.

Along with the turbo, the engine also has a new common rail direct injection (CRDI) system. The thing about this system is that it’s computerized, which makes it operate more smoothly. This robotized approach improves air/fuel mixture for a cleaner combustion.

Finally, the Blue Energy engine also comes with improved oxidizing catalytic converters. Comprised of a diesel oxidizing catalyst and a particle oxidizing catalysts, these turn carbon monoxide, unburnt hydrocarbons, and particulate matter into carbon dioxide and water before exiting the engine.

Taking first dibs of FOTON’s Blue Energy tech is the new Tornado M4.2C truck. This commercial vehicle runs with a 3.8L inline 4-cyclinder mill that exerts 600 Nm of torque. The power plant is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The FOTON Tornado M4.2C’s functionality shines with a slew of amenities to lighten the burden of the daily grind. Firstly, it can accommodate a maximum of 3 people, including the driver. Its entertainment system has a touch screen LED with wireless smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

For safety, the truck carries backup sensors with a rear view camera that displays footage on the LCD screen. Up front, it comes with a downward-facing mirror on the passenger side door. This helps the driver be aware of the rear-right side blind spot. Besides these, the Tornado M4.2C also has standard safety features such as anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution (ABS with EBD), and 3-point ELR seat belts, among others.

FOTON Philippines extends its Blue Energy tech across its model range. Also receiving Euro 4 compliant diesel engines are the rest of the Tornado lineup (2.4C, 4.4C, and the 4.8C), Toplander AT, Traveler, Taono, and the Thunder AT.
