FOTON Motor Philippines, Inc. (FMPI) recently joined the 2018 Land Transportation Office (LTO) Motor Show in celebration of the government agency’s 106th founding anniversary. Running under the show’s theme “Pang Masang Transportasyon, Modelong Napapanahon,” the Chinese brand showcased its take on the modern jeepney, as well as its all-new TransVan people mover.

For this year, the LTO Motor Show, which was held last April 24 to 2018, 2018 in East Avenue Quezon City, focused on displaying the country’s latest players in the commercial vehicle segment. This stems from the market’s huge contribution to the growth of the Philippine economy through businesses like public transport. FMPI capitalized on this, thus its decision to highlight its modern jeepney model and all-new TransVan HR.

FOTON Jeepney

The FOON Jeepney is FMPI’s contribution to the government’s PUV Modernization Program. Thanks to its body building partner Centro Manufacturing Corp., Its design closely resembles that of a minibus, yet still evokes that Pinoy jeepney feel to it.

This is due to some features of the iconic PUV that have been retained and modernized to keep up with the times. These include side-facing passenger seats and covered open-air windows.

In compliance with the PUV Modernization Program, the FOTON Jeepney comes with an etnry/exit door on the right side, ceiling space high enough for standing passengers, room lamps, and a tap-in-tap-out fare collection system via Beep Card.

Powering the FOTON Jeepney is a Cummins 2.L inline 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

FOTON TransVan HR

Second on the list is the all-new FOTON TransVan HR. This people mover trumps its competitors with its 16-seat capacity and high roof (hence the HR on its name). Other than these, the TransVan HR comes fitted with front/rear air-conditioning, entertainment system, and power features like windows and door locks.

Like the Jeepney, the TransVan is propelled by a 2.8L inline 4-cylinder turbo diesel mill with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine delivers 225 Nm of torque.

“Our dynamic participation in the government's project has been evident since day 1. We remain committed to provide safe, reliable, and multi-functional transport solutions for the benefit of more Filipino commuters, families and businesses,” said FOTON Philippines President Rommel Sytin.
