GAC arrives in the Philippines, bringing an entire vehicle lineup

To say that the Filipino car buyer is spoiled for choice is a huge understatement these days. There is practically an offering for just about any need, want, and budget from a host of brands and nameplates. Now, Guangzhou Automobile Motor Corporation Limited (GAC Motors) arrives in the country and offers an entire lineup ranging from sedans, to SUVs, to vans.

Thru its local distributor, Legado Motors, GAC Motors held a grand launch at the MetroTent Convention Center in Pasig. It brought with it the GA4 and GA8 sedans, the GS4 and GS8 SUV duo, and the GM8 van. The GS4 is a compact sedan powered by a 1.5-liter, 113hp and 150Nm motor mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It comes with big car features like stability control and the like.

Those that want an automatic can opt for the GS4 1.3 AT that packs a 1.3-liter turbocharged mill that puts out 136hp and 202Nm of torque. This one is mated to a 6-speed AT and has premium features such as power driver’s seat and a sunroof, among others.

Speaking of upscale, the GA8 is for those that are looking at an alternative to the erstwhile Camry and Accord. This one can be had in either GE or GL trim and comes with a 2.0-liter turbo with 197hp and 300Nm. It boasts of goodies like a 360-degree camera, tri-zone climate control, and other tech amenities.

SUV-crazy Filipinos can check out the pair of crossovers : the GS4 and GS8. The former is a compact SUV that I motivated by a 1.5-liter turbo mill with 151hp and 236Nm, driving the front wheels. The latter, on the other hand, is a seven-seat SUV that gets the 2.0-liter turbo lump and can be had in either front- or all-wheel drive. Each one has premium features like a large touchscreen, powered seats, and triple-zone climate control, just to name a few.

Luxury van buyers, meanwhile, can check out the GM8. Packing the same 2.0-liter turbo found in the GA8 and GS8, this one seems to target the likes of the Toyota Alphard with its power sliding side doors and tailgate, as well as the second-row captain’s chairs with Ottoman and massage function.

GA4 1.3T A/T – Php 988,000

GA8 GE – Php 1,988,000

GA8 GL – Php 2,288,000

GS4 1.5T – Php 1,188,000

GS8 4x2 GE – Php 1,880,000

GS8 4x4 GL – Php 2,388,000

GM8 2.0T – Php 2,880,000
