Get ready for Volkswagen’s smallest SUV, the T-Cross

Volkswagen already has a full lineup of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in its arsenal. The Tiguan sits squarely in the middle of the T-Roc, Tiguan Allspace, and Touareg. But it seems this isn’t enough as VW thinks there is room for one more—the T-Cross--which will make its debut later this year.

Yes, the smallest member of the VW SUV family has been partially revealed via teaser images of its rear and a short clip. While the German carmaker is still mum about most technical details, it did let the world in on a few important tidbits.

For one, the T-Cross will ride on the vaunted MQB platform that is shared with a few VW and SEAT models. This relatively short crossover, which comes in a 4,107mm, will have enough space for five passengers and their cargo. While that may seem smallish on the outside, VW promises more than enough room, thanks to sliding rear seats that add to both rear passenger legroom and cargo-carrying capacity.

Apart from this the T-Cross will be one of the safest crossovers in its segment. This will be made possible thanks to goodies like Front Assist and Lane Assist that are designed to lessen driver stress and help avoid accidents.

The Volkswagen T-Cross would most likely be powered by VW’s range of TSI and TDI engines. It is unclear, however, whether it will be two-wheel drive only or have an all-wheel drive option. Either way, it will have more than ample ground clearance and that command driving position that most people look for in a crossover.

First seen at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, we can expect the Volkswagen T-Cross to enter the scene by the fourth quarter of this year.
