Hard-charging Daniel Miranda scores first podium feat at the 2018 Asian Formula Renault Series

In review, Daniel Miranda, the 2017 Toyota Vios Cup Super Sporting Class champion, made an impressive show of force during Rounds 1 and 2 of this year’s Asian Formula Renault Series (AFR Series). Held last March 17/18 at the Zhuhai International Circuit in China, the 21-year-old Cebuano driver landed himself well within the top 10 finishers.

This positive result from his single-seat racing debut was enough to boost his confidence coming into the series 3rd and 4th rounds. Held last April 28/29 at the 5.5 km-long Shanghai International Circuit, Miranda managed to snag a competent 5th place during qualifying.

In Race 1, he gained a position early on as a result of a spin-out by the car ahead of him. He then saw a room to take 3rd place after a brave passing maneuver.

Keen on defending that position up to the checkered flag on lap 14, he would cross the line still in 3rd - a great start and a history well-done as this was his first podium finish and the first major achievement for his Cebuana Lhuillier-backed team Euroasia Motorsport.

In Race 2, Miranda started off smoothly in 6th place. But he quickly found himself in 7th and struggling to gain grounds after a chaotic first corner incident. This left him on the run to battle for positions. In the end of that 14-lap race, Miranda took home 5th, still an impressive performance considering what this novice formula racer went through to keep up with his more experienced rivals.

Catch Daniel Miranda and his team Euroasia Motorsport again as the 2018 Asian Formula Renault will head over to the Ningbo International Circuit in China for Rounds 5 and 6 on May 26/27.
