The city of Marawi has been at the center of the news for quite some time now. As most everyone is aware, this war-torn city in Mindanao has been hit by fighting between rebels and the military. And now that the war is over, it’s time to rebuild.
Hyundai Asia Resources Inc (HARI), through its corporate social responsibility arm HARI Foundation Inc (HFI) is doing its part to help reconstruct people’s lives and their home as it pledged P100 million to aid in this endeavor.
HARI, along with its 42 dealerships throughout the country signed a Manifesto of Support to Marawi City on December 6, 2017. The move echoes the call toward “economic and inclusive development” and nation building.
Borne out of a need to rehabilitate Mindanao, specifically Marawi, the fund will aid the government’s efforts to uplift the lives of this war-stricken area. Particular areas of concern are livelihood, infrastructure, and education. In line with this, the fund will help build more schools in order to enlist more scholars. It will also help give women livelihood and uplift the lives of these folks and their families.
“More than rehabilitation, we are dedicated to empower Marawi. It is only vital that we educate the youth, enable women of their potential, and more importantly, equip a community to be resilient in the face of challenges. Hyundai is one with the government in this vision, and we look forward to this partnership in the years ahead,” HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo stated.
The Manifesto to Support Marawi is a timely endeavor as Hyundai Motor Company celebrates its 50th year this 2017. It is its Philippine subsidiary’s way of showing that it cares for the country and its people.
