&nbsThe month of May saw Hyundai Asia Resources Inc’s sales post a slight decrease over last year’s figures. Total vehicle sales for May 2018 was pegged at 2,054 units, which brought year-to-date output to 13,130 vehicles. This was down 7.3% from last year’s 14,163 units.
Sales for the first five months of 2018 were buoyed by Passenger Car sales, which totaled 9,100 units. The Accent led the way with 6,146 examples rolling out of showrooms from January to May of this year. The Elantra followed with 594 units.
Despite the 8.5% dip in Light Commercial Vehicle sales this year, the H100 continues to lead the charge for the segment. Sales of the Hyundai offering grew by 27% to 1,444 units, vis-à-vis the 1,134 units sold during the first five months of 2017.
The slight decrease in sales may be attributed to the market’s reaction to the recent implementation of the TRAIN Law that resulted in higher vehicle prices. Despite this, HARI is confident that the market will bounce back and that it, along with the rest of the automotive industry, will have another stellar year. p;
