The Lexus ES has been one of the more popular mainstays in the luxury brand’s lineup. Since its global reveal in 1989, it has had six iterations and has evolved from a compact to a more luxurious midsize offering. Today, Lexus takes the ES to a new level as it unveils the seventh-generation model ato Auto China in Bejing.
Longer and lower, the new Lexus ES boasts of a sleeker roofline and sharper lines that take their cue from the flagship LS and even the sporty LC Coupe. Of course, the trademark Spindle Grille is present up front, this time looking a lot larger than its usual interpretation. The overall look is that of sporty sophistication.
This sporty and sophisticated vibe is carried over to the side and rear. The chiseled rear end even gets a spoiler for F Sport variants. Lexus is trying to show the world that its midsize offeing is ready to do battle with the heavy-hitters in the business.
Further proof of this is the 3.5-liter V6 motor that puts out 300hp and 355Nm. This one is mated to a new 8-speed automatic that promises better performance. Moreover, the car is underpinned with the New Global Architecture-K. This is a revised version of the platform used by the LS and LC, meaning it is more rigid and provides better handling and a smoother ride.
