It’s no doubt that the Mirage G4 is one of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines’ (MMPC) top-selling models with its, to-date, 92,000 units sold. Aside from its competitive pricing and practicality, the Mirage G4 has that made in the Philippines “pride”, all in due part to its inclusion in the government’s Competitive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) program wherein locally-made and assembled vehicles are highlighted to boost economy and uplift the nationalism spirit.

First time car buyers swear by the Mitsubishi Mirage G4, as are the thousands of business-minded people who order an entire fleet of it to mobilize. No wonder that even outside the Philippines, the Mirage G4 is hot with a whopping 370,000 unit sold worldwide. Now, the Mirage G4, although a hit-maker, did need some updates as years went by. Yes it has what it takes to keep up with the rest in its class, but people have been airing out tons of requests for MMPC to reward its top-seller with a much-needed round of mid-cycle refresh.

“Say no more,” says the Japanese carmaker as it recently launched the new Philippine-spec Mirage G4! Running with the hashtag #G4Anything, the subcompact sedan sports a fresh new look and carries with it some updated goodies inside and out to really drive home that #G4Anything spirit in you.

Dynamic looks

MMPC took the obvious route for the new Mirage G4’s exterior styling. As with the Xpander, Montero Sport, and Strada, the Mirage G4 also gets the brand’s proprietary “Dynamic Shield” front end design. This is characterized by a unique bumper and grille combination that’s reminiscent of a Spartan warrior’s helmet, which exudes confidence and versatility. Along with the exterior upgrades are 15 inch alloy wheels and fog lamps that blends well with the overall aggressive style of the Mirage G4.

Updated tech

A familiar yet refreshed vibe is what one would feel, stepping in the cabin of the new Mirage G4. Yes, it still has a spacious interior that can comfortably accommodate 5 adults, and a roomy trunk space that is ready to take on your luggage and cargo. That being said, not much on the bigger picture has been changed, but looking closer into the tiny details, and one will notice the updated centrepiece in the form of the head unit.

This infotainment system now features a 7-inch touch screen multimedia display, complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for Android and iOS devices, respectively. And aside from the USB port, the head unit also doubles as a rear view monitor to better assist the driver when reversing onto the main road or parking spaces.

Suite of safety

It’s very comforting to know that MMPC didn’t overlook the safety aspect when it updated the Mirage G4. That’s because it kitted the subcompact sedan with modern-standard safety features such as the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution *EBD), and  ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Ever-reliable power unit

One thing that MMPC didn’t touch is what’s under the hood. As with the previous version, the new Mirage G4 still carries the tried and true 1.2L 3-cylinder MIVEC power unit that puts out 78 hp and 11 Nm of torque to the front wheels. This motor is connected to either a 5-speed manual gearbox of the INVEC-III CVT.

The new Mitsubishi Mirage G4 in the hands of James Deakin

With all these specs and things out of the way, here’s a quick look at the new Mitsubishi Mirage G4’s real-world experience. It’s James Deakin’s first impressions of the G4. In this video, James tackles on not only the new things found on the updated G4, but also the reason why the model is one of the most significant cars in the Philippines today.

Variants, pricing, and the #G4Anything ownership perks

The new Mitsubishi Mirage G4 comes in 3 variants, the entry-level GLX MT (P769,000), the mid-range GLX CVT (P819,000), and the fully-loaded range-topping GLS CVT (P899,000). Colors available include Red Metallic, Titanium Grey Metallic, Cold Silver Metallic, and White Solid.

To further enhance the G4 experience, MMPC will be adding a free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) Package up to 2 years or 25,000 km (whichever comes first) with free sanitation service to all customers who will purchase a Mirage G4 from August 28 to November 30, 2021.
