After announcing that there will be a one-week dry run of the High Occupancy Vehicle or Carpool lane along EDSA, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) followed this up with a move to reduce the speed limit along the main thoroughfare and other roads in the Metro.
According to a report by Inquirer.net, the current 60kph maximum speed limit set along EDSA will soon be cut to just 50kph. The said move, says MMDA Assistant General Manager for Planning Jose Arturo Garcia, is a move to help reduce road accidents along the 24km ring road traversed by thousands each day.
The move, Garcia notes, has been approved by the Metro Manila Council. Besides EDSA, the 50kph speed limit will also be set along Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, Commonwealth, and Circumferential Road 5 (C5).
While no exact date has been announced for its implementation, the MMDA said that the speed limit will take effect in 2018
