If you’ve been following Toyota’s design language over the past few years, you may have noticed that it has slowly ditched its conservative image in favor of a more dynamic vibe. Case in point are the new Vios, the CH-R, the Yaris, and the US version Camry. Now, the brand’s bread-and-butter sedan, the Corolla, also gets some new clothes.
Now on its 12th generation, the look is decidedly more striking than the already catchy current iteration. The slim headlights and equally thin grille complement the wide inverted lower opening (a la Toyota 86). The side has creases while the rear also looks robust. It’s no sports car by any stretch of the imagination. Yet it definitely looks more youthful.
The cabin is likewise more premium. Although Toyota says that the new car is shorter than the previous one, it retains the wheelbase and adds stuff like a standard 7-inch touchscreen atop the dash. Higher-end variants get an 8-inch unit with Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster also receives a 4.2-ich info screen that can be upgraded to a 7-incher when choosing higher trim levels. This gives the driver a digital speedometer.
