In 1964, Porsche came out with the successor to the 356, a sports car known as the 901. But early into its production life, however, trademark issues prompted the German sports car maker to rename the car as the 911, as the world knows it today.
While the car was developed as the 901, it was sold as the 911. Amidst this transition, some examples of the early 901s were unaccounted for. Folks at Porsche Museum had thought that these were lost forever. Well, until a rather miraculous occurrence in 2014.
A German television station crew doing a documentary on barn finds and antiques stumbled upon two rare vintage 911s. One of them, with chassis number 300 057, happened to be the rare 901 that the Museum had been searching for all this time. This led to the Museum purchasing the car with the aim of restoring it back to its former glory.
