Overlanding is a form of travel that usually takes one to remote destinations, passing thru rivers, tricky trails, and allows one to have an adventure-packed experience. What began as a way to move livestock over long distances in Australia has now become a leisure activity for those that dare to tread.
On its third run, Overland Philippines 2019 is set to take place on February 2-4 along the scenic Philippine west coast, heading all the way to the heart of Zambales. The core attraction of this route will be Mt. Pinatubo, which will give participants the chance to go on a 5km trek to the crater.
Needless to say, the 200km adventure will demand a lot from the drivers and their rigs. While some of the vehicles are stock 4x4s, a lot of these rides will be modified to better cope with some harsh conditions. We’re talking about stuff such as mud tires, raised suspension setups, and auxiliary lights, just to name a few. These will help drivers traverse the trails and avoid getting stuck. Of course, any Overland junkie knows that having one’s rig in sticky situations is just part of the fun.
Speaking of coping, a briefing was held at R.O.X Bonifacio High Street in BGC recently to give participants an idea of what to expect during the trip. Everything from how to prepare one’s ride to making sure that one is physically and mentally fit to take on whatever comes their way. And of course, everyone was reminded that the journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination.
