The Peugeot 508 spawns a sexy and chic wagon

It’s such a shame that station wagons don’t sell that many examples, especially in today’s SUV- and crossover-crazy world. We say this because if you really look closely, you’ll see that there  are quite a number of stylish and tasty offerings out there.

The latest of these is the new Peugeot 508 SW. Taking its cue from the already chic sedan that debuted earlier this year, the new body style adds an elongated roof and rear hatch. It likewise throws in some very elegant character lines along the side to give the car more presence. And the rar is equally a feast for the eyes with its sporty and sexy execution.

Stepping inside, the familiar i-Cockpit greets drivers with its 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 10-inch center displays. The driver grips a small steerng wheel while everything around him/her is made with a bit of French flair.

Buyers have a choice between a 1.6-liter gasoline mill with either 177- or 222hp, a 1.5-liter diesel or a 2.0-liter oil burner. The diesels put out either 128, 158, or 177 horses. Transmissions are either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed autobox. Those looking for hybrid power will have to wait a bit longer as Peugeot will be releasing a gasoline plug-in hybrid in the second half of 2019.

Oh, and let’s not forget the rather comprehensive suite of safety gear. Aside from the blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency brakng systems that are fast becoming standard on many vehicles today, the French carmaker offers stuff like infrared night vision, adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, and street and speed sign recognition.

The Peugeot 508 SW will make its official debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show later this year. It will hit showrooms in January 2019. Here’s hoping Peugeot Philippines will offer it in our market.
