Different people have varying ideas about luxury. Some associate luxury with having the best and finest materials. Then there are those who simply think of it as experiencing something that is a rarity—thinking it is a blissful moment when they have it.

Volvo Cars wants to change the perception of luxury in the automotive industry by giving us the S90 Ambience Concept. Revealed at this year’s Auto China 2018, the concept car puts together a sensory experience that immerses passengers in a sight, sound, and smell experience utilizing the latest technologies in the business.

Taking its cue from the Volvo S90 Excellence, the three-seat sedan uses the headliner, the Bowers and Wilkins audio system, a portal that dispenses scents into the cabin, and a smartphone app to provide a total sensory experience.

Rear seat occupants can chose between 7 preset visual shows that can either soothe or invigorate the ambience. One can choose to see the Northern Lights, the Scandinavian Forest, Swan Lake, or even Rain. Each show is projected onto the headliner and transforms the interior into the set scene.

This is accompanied by an audible experience that matches the mood.  To complete the experience, the portal on the center console emits a corresponding scent.

While aall this is merely a concept, Volvo Cars is hoping to bring it to production within the near future. It is aimed primarily at Chinese customers who demand mothing but the best from their luxury vehicles.

The Volvo S90 Ambience Concept can be seen at the ongoing Auto China 2018 in Bejing.
