The ideal companion for an urban lifestyle—this is how Audi describes the second-generation A1 Sportback. Revealed recently, the car still retains the tidy dimensions of its predecessor but now adds a bit more aggression and style.
At 4.03m long, 1.74m wide, and 1.4m tall, it is definitely a perfect fit for cramped city streets. Yet don’t let the pint size fool you into thinking this is another economobx. On the contrary, Audi takes styling cues from the vaunted Sport Quattro and Ur Quattro, such as the small vent underneath the hoodline. The German carmaker also offers a contrasting roof in either black or gray that complements the sharp angles, flat C-pillar, and broad shoulders. And of course, the wide Singleframe grille up front ties it in with the rest of the family.
Buyers can choose from a host of colors and wheel sizes, ranging from 15-inch rims all the way to 17 inchers. The latter is available for the S-Line trim in either black or platinum. Speaking of choices, buyers can choose from a trio of gasoline engines. The least powerful is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 95hp while the most potent is a 1.4-liter turbo that puts out a rousing (for a small car) 200 horses. There is also a 1.5-liter, 150hp four with cylinder deactivation technology to help save fuel. Transmission options include either a 6-speed manual or the S-tronic dual clutch gearbox.
