Stephan Carapiet makes history as he once again assumes the Presidency of the FIM Asia during the recent FIM Asia General Assembly held in Bangkok, Thailand last February 3, 2018. Carapiet garnered a total of 18 out of the 27 votes cast during the said elections.
His victory is significant as it marks the first time that an elected official makes a return to his former post. Mr. Carapiet held the top spot from 2010 to 2013. He relinquished it that year to his successor, Mr Wan Zaharuddin Wan Ahmad (AAM-Malaysia).
Coming from the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association of the Philippines (NAMSSA), Mr. Carapiet’s latest term will be a “powerhouse line-up”, as he describes it. “We’ve got a VP who will look after the issues and interest of our brothers from the Middle East, VPs from India and China, who will address the motorcycling concerns of 2 nations whose combined populations comprise more than half of the global total and a VP from Guam who will promote the American ideals in sporting, safety and the environment which covers half the world geographically”, he notes.
The team will include a host of Vice-Presidents whose terms will be coterminous with that of the President. They are Issa Alawadhi (BMF-Bahrain), Sujith Kumar (FMSCI-India), Gong Hong Guo (CMSA-China) and Stanley Yasuhiro (GMAC-Guam).
Apart from being the new FIM Asia President, Mr. Carapiet will likewise become an ex-officio member of the FIM Board of Directors.
