The Best of the Best—this is how to describe Team Philippines, which bagged top honors during the Castrol Asia-Pacific Bikes Super Mechanic Contest 2018 that was held in Bangkok, Thailand recently. Composed of Julius Maranga, Georekey Cantabaco, and Gabriel Hidalgo Jr., our very own bested top teams from other Asia-Pacific countries.
The regional finals, which first took place in 2016, witnessed motorbike mechanic pit their skills in a grueling contest to see whom among them can really be called Super Mechanic. In order to do this, the top 18 teams had to undergo a set of stations that entailed both skill and knowledge.
Station 1 was a timed Theoretical Quiz. This was followed by Bike Maintenance. This station saw the teams analyze everything from the engine, brakes, transmission, and other parts of the motorcycle. The teams that emerged victorious in this round went on to station3 where they were given a problem to diagnose and fix in the quickest time possible. In the end, Team Philippines came out on top.
The Castrol Asia-Pacific Bikes Super Mechanic Contest 2018 was a venue where top mechanics from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam came together in friendly competition to hone their skills.
