Toyota Motor Corporation has been giving us a sneak peek at what it will be showcasing at this year’s 45th Tokyo Motor Show. While it will be showing off a few electric vehicles like the TJ Cruiser and Concept-i Series, the Japanese carmaker has not forgotten about one of its other pioneering efforts—the fuel cell vehicle. The Fine-Comfort Ride is Toyota’s vision of a futuristic midsize sedan that runs on hydrogen.
Yes, hydrogen that can power the car with zero emissions and can easily be re-fueled in three minutes, Toyota says. The exterior takes the form of a diamond that’s wide at the front and center yet narrows towards the rear. This makes for a roomy passenger compartment. This spaciousness is made possible by putting the wheels at the vehicle corners and utilizing in-wheel motor technology. Plus, the electric drive system allows the car to have a flat underside for even better aerodynamic efficiency.
This space can be seen in the cabin, which itself is built around the ideal of wearing comfort. This essentially means making the car as comfortable as possible and not just as a space to get from point A to point B. This can be seen in how the seats and displays are centered around the driver and passengers. The space can either be a personal haven or one that can hold meetings while on the move. And the seats themselves adapt to one’s individual posture.
At the heart of all this is an electric drive system powered by clean hydrogen. This makes for a quiet drive and one that can travel up to 1,000kms on a fill up, Toyota notes.
While no word has been given on if and when this vehicle will be produced, it can be seen at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show, running from October 25 to November 5, 2017.
