The Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI), an award-giving body comprised of the country’s esteemed motoring journalists, recently held its first ever 2017 CAGI Motorcycle of the Year Philippines (MOTY-P) Test Fest. The event took place last October 14 at the premier Ayala-owned Arca South (formerly FTI) in Taguig City.
The 2017 MOTY-P Test Fest is vital as it helps to determine the country’s first Motorcycle of the Year, along with the 2017 Philippine Car and Truck of the Year winners to be announced sometime in November.
Present at the time were CAGI’s roster of media men and women who specialize in motorcycles. Similar to the Car and Truck of the Year Test Fests, CAGI carried things out using its 2-fold testing procedure; the Qualitative and Quantitative.
The Qualitative testing was conducted using a specially-designed course around Arca South. It boasted a number of tight and wide corners, straights, and a short slalom section. The test riders took this chance to evaluate the machines’ comfort and handling. The tight turns and slalom section took the Qualitative spotlight as these showcased the agility of each test bike. Attributes like cornering/banking and the ability to execute quick successive turns akin to defensive riding were observed.
The Quantitative testing, on the other hand, utilized high-tech gadgets like GPS and data-gathering devices that accurately measure each bike’s acceleration, braking, and general power delivery.
All these were made possible with CAGI’s long-time partners Carmudi Philippines and KPMG RG Manabat & Co. As an auditing firm, the latter would ensure the cleanliness and fairness of the Test Fest.
