Toyota has always been a staunch advocate of hybrid electric power in motorized vehicles. It was, after all, the first automaker to introduce to market such a vehicle some 20 years ago in the guise of the Prius. Now, Toyota Motor Philippines brings this concept closer to the next-generation of drivers via its Hybrid Electric Vehicle Campus Tour.
Kicking things off was a one-day activity at Mapua University’s Mechanical and Manufacturing Department. The affair, which featured a symposium and test drive activity, coincided with the MME’s 79th anniversary celebration.
The symposium focused on the benefits of hybrid power, its advantages and how a powerful and fuel-efficient vehicle like the Prius and its Prius C sibling can be beneficial to our environment. This gave students and faculty members an inside insight into such a technological breakthrough.
After the talk, students got a chance to get behind the wheel of the Prius C. Under the watchful eyes of well-trained experts from Toyota, their curiosity about such a vehicle and what makes it tick were likewise answered.
All this is in keeping with Toyota Motor Corporation’s Environmental Challenge 2050 that seeks to promote sustainable mobility for the future. The HEV Campus Tour will head over to University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle University in the coming months.
