For some time now, Volvo Cars has been teasing us with snippets about its upcoming small Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Well, the time has arrived for the Swedish luxury carmaker to reveal the XC40.

The smallest and newest member of the Volvo SUV family boasts a number of firsts for the segment and the industry as well. It is the first Volvo to utilize the new modular architecture (CMA) that is set to underpin all new compact Volvos in the coming years. And yes, it is the first compact Volvo SUV.

Yet being the smallest SUV in the lineup doesn’t mean Volvo scrimped on safety. On the contrary, goodies like City Safety, Run-off Road protection, Cross Traffic alert with brake support, 360-degree camera, and Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving mode are just some of the trademark features that make this unmistakably a Volvo.

The new XC40 will likewise offer an ingenious way of storing your things inside the cabin and de-cluttering your life. Storage spaces in the doors are bigger as there are no speakers here. There is a removable waste bin in the center tunnel. And there are hooks for your bags and other stuff. Plus, you can store your phone in a dedicated holder—complete with inductive charging ports.

And owning the Volvo XC40 can be as easy as subscribing to a mobile phone service. Depending on the market, Volvo will rid owners of things like downpayments and monthly amortization fees. Under the Care by Volvo service, one also gets concierge privileges like fueling, vehicle cleaning, service pickup, and even e-commerce delivery. Owners can even share the car with family and friends via car-sharing services that come with a Digital Key.

The Volvo XC40 will initially come with either a D4 diesel or T5 gasoline engine.  It will likewise come with a three-cylinder motor and will also have a hybrid and electric version later on.

The Volvo XC40, along with the Care by Volvo package is now available. Production will begin in November.
