Will Mitsubishi Revive the Evo?

It’s no secret that a lot of car enthusiasts were saddened by the demise of the Mitsubishi Evolution. The Japanese carmaker’s decision to focus more on crossovers, hybrids, and SUVs meant ending a series that fueled the passion of many a car nut. But lo and behold, Mitsubishi might just revive the Evo badge.

Well, this is the impression we’re getting as Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced that the star of its Tokyo Motor Show display this year will be the e-Evolution Concept. Set to be revealed at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show, the Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept is poised to take the brand into the future.

But before you get all excited, you must know that the new Evolution might not be the rally-going Lancer of yore. On the contrary, Mitsubishi says that the e-Evolution Concept will be an electric-powered, low-slung SUV coupe. Moreover, it will feature Artificial Intelligence tech.

While this description may sound like a damper, you must remember that Mitsubishi has a knack for making sporty offerings—even SUVs.  Of course, it would be wise to reserve judgment until we’ve actually seen the concept or even better, its production version.

Let’s do just that when the 45th Tokyo Motor Show takes place beginning October 25th.
