Cashless payments are nothing new. Most if not all of us have used credit or debit cards to pay for goods or services at one point or another. Then there are apps that now allow us to do the same—minus the swipe through a card reader. Shell, together with Chevrolet, takes this a step further by allowing one this convenience right from the driver’s seat.
Thanks to the Chevrolet Marketplace app, customers can now pay for gas at select Shell stations by simply making a transaction using their vehicle’s infotainment touchscreen. The simple process involves entering the specific Shell station’s location. This will then generate a code that will then be entered into the desired pump—allowing filling to begin. Payment will then be automatically charged to whatever payment method the user chooses. This will likewise work together with Shell’s own Rewards system to help earn points and save on fuel bills.
As for Chevy’s Marketplace app, this cool new feature of 2017 or newer Chevrolet vehicles was rolled out last year to give customers total convenience when interacting with their favorite brands. They can locate the nearest restaurants, hotels, gas stations, and other merchants right from the driver’s seat. They can even use the app to pay for these very services, as seen with the Shell service. While it is nothing new (as Jaguar rolled out a similar service last yer), it is the first of its kind from a mainstream automotive brand.
The Chevrolet-Shell fuel payment system, however, is only available in select markets and locations. Unfortunately, we still don’t have it here in the Philippines. But who knows? With technology arriving quite quickly as of late, it may only be a matter of time before Filipinos get to enjoy this payment method when filling up their Chevy.
