Batman. DC Comic’s iconic superhero, has traditionally been a lone crusader battling the bad guys. But in the upcoming Lego Batman movie, he learns that he may need the help of other people to defeat criminals like The Joker.
Of course, what’s a Batman movie without the Batmobile? Inspired by Batman’s Speedwagon, the Chevrolet Lego Batmobile was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. With the help of sixth-grade students from Cody Rogue Community school, A World in Motion, and First Lego League, the joint project with Warner Bros is a stunning life-sized Lego piece with exclusive stuff like special studs, among others.
Measuring 17ft long, 6.92ft high, and 9.25ft wide, it weighs in at around 1,695lbs. Part this mass is due to the four tires, which each tip the scales at around a 100lbs. To complete the Chevy Lego Batmobile, 344,187 Lego bricks were painstakingly put together at the Lego Model Shop in Enfield, Connecticut. The massive work of Lego art took Lego Master Builders 222 hours to design and 1,833 hours to assemble.
So why the partnership with Chevrolet, you wonder? According to the American carmaker, many of the values of the Lego Batman movie, like family and community, are shared with Chevy. Moreover, the new Lego Batmobile will appear in Real People, Not Actors, a spot where Lego Minifigures discuss what kind of people would drive the new Lego Batmobile.
The Lego Batman movie hits US cinemas on February 10.
