The Electric Vehicles Association of the Philippines (EVAP) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) have agreed to iron out some registration and regulation concerns with regard to electric tricycles, scooters, and similar machines.

The said discussion served as a part of LTO’s mission to curb the number of unregistered electric motorcycles, some of which were reported to have been involved in numerous accidents on highways and busy streets.

As regard, LTO has put forth its set of guidelines on proper electric vehicle registration, seeing that these types of vehicles are still considered as motorized. It has also clarified that only human-powered vehicles like bi-pedal bicycles and/or “pedicabs” are exempted from registration and regulation.

Also present in the meeting were EVAP members EVAP members EV Wealth Inc., Tojo Motors, Bemac, Eliah Green, Le Guider, BYD, Kea Industrial Corporation, AET, individual members, various representatives from different electric bicycle, scooter and motorcycle dealers and distributors.

According to EVAP president Rommel Juan, EVAP members with complete and proper vehicle registration documents have asked assistance from EBike companies in helping them register their vehicles.

In addition, Juan was also quoted as saying, “We also gave suggestions to the LTO on how registrations may be streamlined. And we are elated that LTO responded positively and said they will consider our suggestions. Finally, we have an LTO that is proactively consulting and communicating with the industry and its users.”
