It is no secret that in the automotive realm, less often means more. We, of course, refer to less weight translating to better performance. Less strain on the engine and drivetrain means a better overall drive. This is the same philosophy shared by Lotus founder Colin Chapman, as seen in models like the all-new Lotus Elise Sprint.

Sitting between the Lotus Elise Cup 250 and Elise Sport in the model hierarchy, the Elise Sprint utilizes a wide range of weight-saving measures to bring out the most out of either the 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder or the 1.8-liter supercharged mill. Goodies like carbon race seats, a lithium-ion battery, carbon pieces for the engine cover, access hatch, roll cage, alloy wheels, and the like all help save something like 26kg compared to the Elise Sport.

One can even specify two-piece brake discs and carbon sill covers. All told, these cut dry weight further to a truly light 798kg. Moreover, new body panels and components like a revised diffuser and redesigned front and rear sections help save weight and cut wind drag as well. And of course, performance is improved, with the Sprint and Sprint 220 dashing from 0-100kph in just 5.9 and 4.1 seoncs, respectively.

Inside, the cabin gets optional carbon sill plates, as well as an open-gate shifter as seen on the Lotus Exige. This gives it a sportier appeal and likewise adds to the exclusivity. Owners can even customize their ride further with Alcantara trim in the cabin and an Electric Light Blue paint scheme.

As mentioned above, engine power comes from either a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated mill with 134hp and 160Nm or a 1.8-lter supercharged motor with 217hp and 250Nm. And with the feather-light mass, driving fun is present from the get-go.

The Lotus Elise Sprint package can be ordered on the Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220.
