It’s not every day that a carmaker teams up with a food company to market their respective products. So when Lexus joins forces with Huy Fong Foods, makers of Sriracha Hot Sauce, we’re somehow expecting a really hot car.
The result is a hotter version of the 2017 Lexus IS—the Lexus Sriracha IS. The one-off project, which was unveiled at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, is a design study by renowned car designer West Coast Customs. It features a slew of Sriracha Green accents seen on the Spindle Grille outline, interior mood lighting, brake calipers, seat stitching, and side mirrors. The signature Huy Fong Bottle Green color contrasts nicely with the Sriracha Red paint job.
The color is particularly noteworthy in that the creators actually used Sriracha hot sauce to try and come up with the perfect shade and texture. Their efforts paid off as the outer surface boasts of chili-like flakes, made to look like the sauce inside the bottle.
More hot stuff can be seen on the custom Sriracha steering wheel, complete with “Hot Handling” warning, a Sriracha temperature setting for the seat heater and ventilation system, the Huy Fong Foods logo on the leather seats, and of course, Sriracha badging. There is even a Sriracha Driving Mode to bring out the car’s ultra-hot performance character. Finally, the trunk packs a total of 43 Sriracha bottles for when one needs a bit of spicy pick-me-up anywhere, anytime.
To match the Lexus Sriracha IS, two specially-designed jackets were created just for the concept. They feature an embroidered Sriracha IS image and patches and go nicely with the pair of custom driving gloves, also made just for the IS.
