It has only been about two months since the all-new Subaru Impreza was launched in Japan. Yet it has already garnered the highest honor in the land, specifically, the 2016-2017 Japan Car of the Year.

The latest Impreza has exceeded all sales targets set by Subaru, with orders reaching 11,050 units—far more than the projected 2,500 cars the Japanese carmaker had set when it launched the newest iteration last October. The Impreza combines practicality, a fun-to-drive vibe, and performance all rolled into one stylish package. Subaru even describes the Impreza experience as offering “enjoyment and peace of mind”. And to most folks, this definitely works.

The 2016-2017 Japan Car of the Year search was open to all car models sold between November 1, 2015 and October 31, 2016. The vehicle should have sold some 500 examples or more to qualify. This is Subaru’s second time to win the coveted prize, following the Legacy’s victory back in 2003.
