Prestone, through its local manufacturer Clorox International Philippines, Inc. (CIPI), recently celebrated its 90th year in the business of providing quality car care and protection products.
The event, which was held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, was made nostalgic with a vintage car show. It also included an awarding ceremony of the top-performing Prestone distributor partners in the country.
Prestone began its journey in 1927. It was the first brand to develop a non-flammable engine coolant called Ethylene Glycol Antifreeze. At the time, the said coolant became revolutionary as it was odorless and would never boil away under extreme heat. Soon, big car manufacturers such as Ford, GM, and Chrysler became brand partners with Preston, thus strengthening its foothold in the global automotive industry.
Prestone eventually gained traction in the Philippine market during the mid ‘60s through multiple sellers and distributors. One of them is Mr. Jo Tan who began distributing Prestone products in 1965 as part of his business called Ford Ways (now known as Super Center Marketing Venture). There’s also Mr. Joe Manaloto who started selling Prestone in the ‘90s through his Lub Products, Inc. business.
Today, Prestone is a proud brand partner of such names as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation, Victory Liner, Toyota Forklifts Philippines, and Rapide.
Along with the anniversary celebration, Prestone also held a car show featuring 6 vintage automobiles. These include the 1918 Chevrolet 490 Pickup, 1934 Nash Ambassador, 1947 Chrysler Town & Country Woody, 1948 Buick Roadmaster Convertible, 1965 Volkswagen Kombi Bus Type II, and 1975 Mitsubishi Minica F4. Of course for today’s generation of car enthusiasts, a 2017 Subaru BRZ was also on display.
Lastly, CIPI gave credit to whom it’s due as it awarded Cilicon Trading Corporation the Distributor of the Year title for 2016.
Monique Gonzales, Prestone’s Brand Manager remarked: “It will be a year-long celebration for Prestone and our consumers. They can catch us on car shows nationwide. We will also be launching the Anak ng Mekaniko Scholarship Program to give back to our silent partners in protecting cars for the last 90 Years – the mechanics.”
