For most small families these days, the choices for a new vehicle usually boil down to two offerings: a sedan or a compact crossover. For folks who still can’t decide, Kia shows off its newest nameplates in these particular segments: the Kia Pegas sedan and the K2 Cross compact crossover.
Unveiled at the ongoing Shanghai International Auto Exhibition, the Kia Pegas is a stylish and youthful sedan aimed primarily at newlywed couples and small families. With a 2,570mm wheelbase, it boasts a spacious and modern interior with all the conveniences and connectivity options.
Up front, the new Kia Pegas flaunts the latest iteration of the Tiger Nose grille. Beneath this is a fuel-efficient 1.4-liter motor with 95hp and 133Nm, mated to a either a 5-speed manual or 4-speedautomatic.
Buyers who need more space and versatility, meanwhile, can check out the new Kia K2 Cross. If that name sounds a tad familiar, that’s because the K2 is the official designation of the popular Kia Rio subcompact. It now succumbs to the crossover trend and spawns a taller version with body cladding, roof rails, and a 45mm higher ground clearance.
The SUV vibe is backed up by a choice of either a 1.4-liter 100hp, 132Nm motor or a 1.6-liter mill with 123hp and 151Nm of torque. Either way, dual continuously variable valve timing (D-CVVT) makes for potent yet efficient performance under all driving conditions. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
The new Kia Pegas will be sold in China beginning in the second half of this year. The Kia K2 Cross, on ther other hand, will hit showrooms in the 2nd quarter of 2017.
