It’s hard to believe that the current, second-generation Toyota Fortuner is already two years old. First seen in 2015, it has given Toyota’s erstwhile pickup-based SUV a more modern vibe. But as anyone who is familiar with cars knows, two years is pretty much pushing midlife. This is why Toyota decided to give the Fortuner a bit of a refresh.
Unveiled in the Thai market, the updated Toyota Fortuner gets a new pair of LED fog lamps, new side indicator turn signals, and revised stepboards. While the inside remains mostly unchanged, front passengers now benefit from an 8-way power adjustable seat for added comfort and convenience.
The biggest change for the 2018 Fortuner, however, can be found under the metal. Additional safety now comes in the form of rear disc brakes, while the 2.4 V variant now receives four-wheel drive. This gives additional traction for optimum control on any road surface. At present, the 4WD system is only available for top-spec 2.8 V models.
The Toyota Fortuner is still powered by either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel with 150hp and 400Nm or a 2.8-liter oil burner with 177hp and 450Nm.
