Aside from celebrating its 70th birthday, Ferrari also commemorated the 55th anniversary of one of its most iconic models, the 250 GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato). As regard, it recently held an event called the Ferrari 250 GTO Rally 2017.
In retrospect, the 250 GTO first rolled off Ferrari’s assembly line back in 1962, and enjoyed a short yet sweet production run that lasted until 1964. It came with a choice of 2 engines (a 3.0L V12 and a 4.0L V12) that were mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Ferrari originally made the 250 GTO as a race car that would meet FIA’s (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) GT Group 3 homologation rules at the time, hence the GTO letters on its name.
In addition, Ferrari only made a total of 36 examples of the 250 GTO during its 3-year production run. This means that the model is hailed as one of the most valued collector’s item today.
