Toyota PH set to conquer pickup truck segment with the Hilux Conquest

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has opened 2018 by unveiling the Conquest, a new flagship variant of the Hilux pickup truck. To make it clear, the Conquest shares its core with the regular G grade. But it ups the ante by the notches with its aggressive styling.

For starters, it’s got a redesigned front end with a new blacked-out grille design that gives it a meaner, more masculine appeal. On the flanks are LED headlights and daytime running lights. Just below are LED fog lamps that help the driver see the road ahead under compromised visibility.

In profile, the Conquest is fitted with a bigger set of alloy wheels measuring 18 inches. Moreover, Toyota has redesigned the wheels to fit the Conquest’s bold and brawny theme. As comparison, the regular Hilux G variant rolls with 17-inch alloys with a more subdued look.

The rear portion comes with a thick, blacked-out bar on the back of the cabin. These serves not only as style element, but also as additional means of security to prevent cargos such as motorcycles or big crates from falling over to the side when going off-road. These are matched with blacked-out tail light frames and a redesigned bumper to complete the motif.

But Toyota didn’t stop there. For the local market, TMP offers the Conquest with 3 colors to choose from. These are the Freedom White, Attitude Black Mica, and the Nebula Blue Metallic which is exclusive only to the Conquest.

Inside, Toyota kept the regular G grade’s interior design intact for this range-topping version. These include the black motif, 6-inch LCD infotainment system, and automatic air conditioning. What’s new, however, is the addition of a smart key entry system with push-button start/stop.

Occupants of the Toyota Hilux Conquest can rest assured that safety is paramount. That’s because the truck is fitted with 7 airbags, brake assist, and anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution. Moreover, it also has vehicle stability control and traction control for maximum drivability under bad road conditions.

For the long haul with a trailer, Toyota added a sway control into the mix. This prevents severe swaying of the trailer when cornering or changing lanes. It works by automatically decelerating the vehicle whenever swaying is detected.

TMP offers the conquest in 4x4 and 4x2 kinds. The former runs with a 2.8L inline 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that puts out 170 hp and 450 Nm of torque. It comes equipped with a 6-speed transmission available in manual or automatic with sequential shift. The latter, on the other hand, moves with a 2.4L version with 147 hp and 400 Nm on tap and is available with the same gearbox option as the 4x4.
