Volvo Cars has had a long-standing love affair with the station wagon. Since the Swedish brand’s early days, it has been offering buyers versatility and practically while still giving them the peace of mind that comes from driving a Volvo. This continues with the unveiling of the latest-generation Volvo V60.
The premium wagon in the 60 Series range sports the premium looks that are now a Volvo signature. Shared with the XC60 and 90 Series models, the new wagon also uses the brand’s vaunted Scalable Product Architecture. This is a first for the premium midsize class.
Launched at a rather unconventional venue—a Swedish family’s very own driveway--, the event emphasizes who the car’s target customer is—the family. It is aimed at families looking for a safe yet comfortable vehicle that can be used for the everyday commute or the weekend out of town trip.
Buyers can choose from host of engines that range from the T5 and T6 for gasoline, D3 and D4 for diesel, or a pair of plug-in hybrid variants. The T6 Twin Engine model puts out 340hp while its T8 Twin Engine counterpart produces a total system output of 390hp.
