Car enthusiasts that have been closely following developments at Subaru these past few months will note that the brand has been pushing its vaunted EyeSight suite of safety tech. It even launched it in the ASEAN region earlier this year. Well, the tech has finally made it to our shores, along with the updated Subaru Outback. Both debuted at this year’s Manila International Auto Show in Pasay City.
With a larger front grille, updated wheels, and some minor exterior enhancements, the 2018 Outback brings more sophistication to the ruggedly handsome vehicle. .The same goes for the inside, with a revised infotainment system and additional sound insulation in strategic places.
The biggest news, however, is the inclusion of EyeSight on the top-of-the-range 3.6R-S variant. This sees stuff like automatic emergency braking, forward collision mitigation, lane keeping and lane departure warning, throttle override, and adaptive cruise control, among others.
In essence, what EyeSight does is keep track of the vehicle’s surroundings to help assist the driver. It emits both visual and audible warnings when a possible collision is detected. Should the driver fail to take action, it then applies appropriate steps such as brake or steering inputs to help avoid a potential mishap.
The updted Subaru Outback is available is two variants:
- 2.5iSL P2,178,000
- 3.6RS (with EyeSight): P2,408,000
The 14th Manila International Auto Show runs from April 5-8, 2018 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
