Subaru may have been busy rolling out the latest iterations of its best-selling models such as the XV, Outback, and Forester. But the Japanese carmaker has not forgotten the nameplates that have given it worldwide acclaim, especially among automotive enthusiasts. We refer to the WRX and WRX STI, which just got an upgrade for the 2019 model year.
For the “lesser” WRX, not much has changed except for touches like a new infotainment system, as well as a new Series Gray paint job. The bigger news, however, is for the WRX STI that now has a more potent 2.5-liter turbo boxer motor with 310hp. That figure practically matches the WRX STI Type RA that was limited to just 500 copies.
Thanks to a new air intake system, upgraded exhaust, updated ECU software, and a tweaked third gear, the top-tier Subaru offering now offers better acceleration. Of course, drivers still get to row their own gears via 6-speed manual gearbox. And just like its WRX brother, the STI will get the Series Gray exterior finish.
The 2019 Subaru WRX and WRX STI are now available in the North American market. The special Series Gray hues, however, will be limited to just 750 units for the WRX and 250 examples for the WRX STI.
