Ilolo’s Metro Express Connect takes delivery of the first batch of Isuzu’s Modern PUVs

A fleet of MetroExpress’ modernized Isuzu PUVs. These fully-air-conditioned modern Isuzu PUVs – the first in Western Visayas – are PWD-friendly (persons with disability) and are equipped with upgraded features, such as automated fare collection system, CCTV, WiFi, GPS (global positioning system), and television monitors.

After the turnover of the first batch of modern Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) last June, a fresh batch of 15 units of Isuzu PUVs were handed over to Metro Express Connect in Iloilo City yesterday.

The turnover ceremony was attended by officials from Isuzu Philippines Corporation, Metro Express Connect, and various government agencies involved in the PUV Modernization Program. The said units, according to IPC, are a joint venture between itself and Almazora Motors.

Taking its cue from the QKR77 platform, the new PUVs comply with the latest guidelines set by the Bureau of Product Standards. This means a tall floor-to-ceiling height for added space even for standing passengers. It likewise utilizes side-facing seats and provisions for wheelchairs and the aforementioned standing riders.

Moreover, the modern PUV will have a side-facing door instead of the usual rear-facing one found on most jeepneys. The opening wil be located on the right side, allowing ingress and egress on the sidewalk for added safety. There will likewise be fire extinguishers to give everyone added peace of mind.

In addition, the new PUVs will employ the latest in convenience and safety features. These include LED monitors and signages that wll inform passengers of routes and other vital data. An automated fare collection system will be used, making it more convenient as passengers need not fish for change but simply tap their fare cards to make payments. And a CCTV, dashcam, and reverse camera will come with the package to give everyone extra security.

The initial batch of 15 Modern PUVs represent the first half of the initial order made by Metro Express Connect. The said PUVs will ply its various routes and will give its riders a safe and convenient way to get around. Thanks to the Euro 4 compliant engines, the new PUVs will be able to provide more efficient service for years to come.

And with the Isuzu Advantage, Metro Express is assured of high-quality service that will keep the PUVs in top form for thousands of kilometers. And with nationwide parts and service, drivers and operators are assured that they can have their vehicles serviced wherever they may be.

Expect to see more Modern PUVs being delivered to more customers within the next few years. This is in line with the stakeholders aim to replace more than 200,000PUVs aged 15 years or older.
