Toyota PH celebrates 30th anniversary, donates over 30 brand new rides to Philippine government

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), the official local distributor of Toyota vehicles, is now enjoying 30 years of continued success as the country’s number 1 automotive manufacturer. To mark this milestone, it recently threw a 30th anniversary celebration at the posh Grand Hyatt Manila Hotel in BGC Taguig.

Now, TMP celebrating its anniversary in a grand way is nothing new. What’s special about this, however, is TMP’s big effort to honor the Philippine government for its continued support to the brand and to the local motoring industry. This came in the form of a donation consisting of more than 30 brand new vehicles for the government official to use.

Specifically, TMP handed over 20 units of the recently launched all-new Toyota Vios, 10 units of the latest Toyota Innova, and 3 units of the Toyota Hiace. The keys to these vehicles were presented to the evening’s Guest of Honor, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, by Toyota Motor Corporation Head Honcho Akio Toyoda.

Toyoda even fondly recalled how his brand once had no choice but to leave the country years prior to its 1988 resurgence. But he ended his speech by making a promise that Toyota will never leave the Philippines again.

To drive the point home, he even touched on the topic regarding the solid influence the brand’s 1988-to-present models have given to the industry; models like the iconic Tamaraw FX which is touted as the fire starter of the Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) boom in the Philippines during the ‘90s.

His proclamation garnered an ovation, considering the much-improved local motoring industry today, thanks to the Philippine government and its efforts like the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program. In brief, the CARS Program was created to boost the local motoring industry by way of allowing car brands to locally manufacturer some of their models with locally-made parts and locally-sourced workforce.

Of note, TMP is among the proud participants of the CARS Program, and that it entered the program by way of manufacturing all of the previous and latest generation Vios at its massive plant in Sta. Rosa Laguna. Joining it on the program is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines with its locally-made Mirage G4. The 3rd slot on the program was given to several manufacturers who are willing to push forward the government’s PUV Modernization Program – manufacturers like Centro, Almazora, and Santarosa, to name a few.
