While Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are all the rage these days, it was the Mercedes-Benz M-Class that started it all for the premium SUV segment back in 1997. Since then, the category has grown, M-Class sales have hit some 2 million units worldwide, and the model itself has been renamed the GLE, in line with the marque’s nomenclature strategy. Now, a new-generation debuts with the reveal of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Class.
A closer peek at the SUV’s flanks shows a familiar look that’s a bit more streamlined this time around. Moreover, Mercedes says that its midsize sport ute is also more slippery at 0.29 verus the previous iteration’s 0.32 coefficient of drag. What also quite obvious is that the vehicle has grown, allowing for more interior room—including an optional third row of seats.
That more spacious cabin also plays host to the now familiar high-tech yet still luxurious dash from Stuttgart. Two 12.3-inch screens now sit in front of the driver and center console. These house vital vehicle information and infotainment data. Apart from these, front passengers get an optional Energizing system that reacts to ocupaants’ changes in posture and adjusts the seats accordingly, providing a more comfortable ride.
