While everyone’s attention was on the hot new Ranger Raptor that was launched last Friday at Arca South, Ford Philipines also unveiled the refreshed 2019 Ranger pickup. Yes, the erstwhile workhorse-cum-lifestyle vehicle has now been given a nip-and-tuck with a few substantial updates to boot.
The new front grille and front bumper give hints that one is looking at the restyled Ranger. Ford also gave the Wildtrak version HID headlamps with LED daytime running lights. Apart from this, the cabin has likewise been spruced up, now offering SYNC3 infotainment to keep occupants entertained and connected while on the move.
Ford has also put in some cool toys such as Tailgate Assist, along with safety kit like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Park Assist,. All these are meant to make life easier and driving safer.
The biggest change, however, can be seen under the hood. Gone is the 3.2-liter five-cylinder engine and in its place is the Raptor’s 2.0-liter bi-turbo four-diesel mill with 210hp and 500Nm of torque. Available on the Wildtrak 4x4 AT, it is joined by a 2.0-liter turbo with 180hp and 420Nm, as well as the 2.2-liter mill with 160hp and 385Nm of torque. The 2.0-liter engines are paired with a 10-speed AT while the 2.2-liter can be had with either a MT or AT gearbox.
