For seven generations, the Porsche 911 has been offering enthusiasts supercar-like driving performance with a hint of everyday practicality. The kind of sports car that can be used for a leisurely commute to work and still be loads of fun on a track or a winding mountain road when called upon—with no compromises whatsoever. Now, the German sports car maker gives us more of this in the all-new, 2020 Porsche 911.
Dubbed the Type 992, the Mark VIII 911 continues the tradition started by its predecessor some 55 years ago as it serves up an evolutionary design language that has been a hallmark since Day One. Today’s 911, however, is more fuluid, with flush lines as well as more pronounced curves and bulges in all the right places (check out those fender flares). The door handles are likewise retractable, lending to the car’s flush bodywork.
It is on the inside, though, where the biggest design changes take place. There is now a large 9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Yet despite this modern touch, the central tachometer is still front and, well, center as it should be. And yes, there are still two rear seats, albeit usable only by small children and even smaller adults.
