The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) recently held its 7th iteration of the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). Boosted by the theme, “Electric Vehicles: Modernizing the Transportation Landscape, Driving Sustainable Growth,” the summit tackled recent undertakings the country has done to further strengthen e-mobility. It also showcased a number of hybrid and full-electric vehicles from mainstream carmakers as well as budding local manufacturers.

“We are highly encouraged by the support we are getting from major automotive manufacturers which is a very strong indication that our transportation sector is slowly but steadily transitioning to more modern, energy efficient, greener and sustainable mobility so that we can create cleaner and better cities for our children,” shared EVAP President Edmund A. Araga.

Taking his words into account, this year’s PEVS became the avenue for many carmakers to showcase their latest line of hybrid and electric models. Brands such as Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Nissan were present to display an assembly of vehicles including the iONIQ and the Kona Electric, Outlander PHEV, and Leaf, respectively. Other car brands such as BYD, Dongfeng, and Le Guider Philippines were also there to showcase the e5, ER30, and more. Of course, an assembly of modern PUVs from different brands were given spotlight as well. With them are the latest models of e-tricyles, e-vans, and e-buses to complete the show.

“Accelerating our country’s transition to fossil free driving would require, more than ever, the help of our academic institutions in terms of research, innovation, industry linkage, trainings, among others. That’s why this year, we are launching the eVAP Academe Chapter to help close the knowledge gap that is holding back our countrymen from choosing electric vehicles and to help our local EV industry address the barriers to widespread EV adoption,” Araga added as he and a few distinguished guests from the local government, international scene, and car brands hold a press conference discussing the latest updates regarding the future of e-mobility.

Some of the topics discussed were the following.

  • Current efforts on establishing a national regulatory framework for the use ofelectric vehicles and the establishment of charging stations;
  • Presentation on E-Mobility Solutions to be led by Nissan Motor Corporation Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation;
  • Plenary sessions on developing the Philippine EV industry, addressing the EV infrastructure challenge and learnings from abroad on building a robust EV ecosystem for the country;
  • Presentations on successful EV deployments in the country;
  • EV exhibition showcasing the latest trends in e-mobility solutions;
  • Launching of the EVAP Academe Chapter; and
  • EV test drive sessions to provide delegates with an opportunity to have hands- on EV experience
